ACC Receives Grant from TWC JET Program
The Texas Workforce Commission issued a $324,139 grant to Alvin Community College through the Jobs and Education for Texans program.
“This grant will provide important equipment and training for the students in our Process Technology program,” said Lilly Garcia, ACC Grants coordinator. “The Jobs and Education for Texans grant program continues to be a vital resource for ACC.”
The grant will provide equipment to serve up to 225 students while also funding training for petroleum pump system operators, refinery operators, and gaugers.
The equipment that will be purchased include: vertical separator, temperature process control learning systems, computerized chemical reactor, discontinuous distillation unit and a crude oil desalter model.
The JET program provides funding for equipment to eligible educational institutions for the purpose of developing career and technical education courses and may include courses offering dual-credit and technical education programs. Equipment funded through JET grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.
ACC was one of 41 colleges and school districts to receive a portion of the $10.38 million awarded this past year.
JET grants represent an important investment toward closing the middle skills gap in our state by creating opportunities for young Texans to pursue high-demand, well-paying jobs requiring only a short training period,” said Texas Workforce Development Chair Bryan Daniel. “As students make the transition into the workforce, it is essential for our economy they have the education and skills needed to succeed in the workplace.”
The Texas Workforce Commission is a state agency dedicated to helping Texas employers, workers and communities prosper economically.
